Step 1 – Apply for Admission to Temple College

Apply for admission to Temple College by clicking the "Apply Now" button on any TC web page. Choose the Pre-Nursing degree program. You must meet all TSI requirements in order to apply for nursing. Please verify that your legal name and address are correct within the Temple College system. Nursing program applicants must be 18 years old by the first day of class.

  1. Submit official transcripts to TC Admissions from every program, college, or university you have ever attended. Transcripts must be received by TC Admissions by the Nursing application deadline. If you transferred credits from one college to another, submit official transcripts from both colleges.

Failure to meet the transcript requirement by the application deadline will render your application incomplete and it will not be processed, scored, or ranked. See Transcripts and Transfer Information for details. Do not send official transcripts to the Nursing department.

  2. Attend an initial advising session that includes mandatory identity verification (photo ID required).

License & Work Experience Requirements

To be eligible to proceed with the ADN Bridging program application, you must possess one of the following:

  • A valid Texas VN license in good standing, without disciplinary action or stipulations. The license must state "unencumbered" (not just "Compact License").
  • A current Texas Paramedic license or Medic/Corpsman certificate.
  • If you are a currently enrolled VN student at the time of application, you must successfully complete your VN program before the start of the Bridging program. If selected, you will be given a deadline to pass NCLEX-PN on your first attempt in order to continue in the program.

Your professional license must remain current throughout the program.

If you graduated one year or more before applying, you must have worked as an LVN or Paramedic for at least 6 months full-time or 1 year part-time within the 12 months prior to your application. You may be asked to provide proof of employment.

Prerequisite Courses

To be eligible to proceed with the ADN Bridging program application, you must have completed the following prerequisite courses with a minimum grade of "C" or better before the Nursing application deadline:

  • BIOL 2401 – Anatomy and Physiology I
  • BIOL 2402 – Anatomy and Physiology II
  • ENGL 1301 – Composition I
  • PSYC 2301 – General Psychology

All Biology courses must be within 10 years of application.

GPA Requirement

You must have a 2.8 or higher GPA in all prerequisite and any completed corequisite courses in the ADN Bridging degree plan in order to apply.

You are responsible for ensuring you meet the ADN Bridging prerequisite requirements. Before applying, confirm that any prerequisite or completed corequisite courses from other institutions are equivalent to Temple College courses. After applying for admission to TC, send your official transcripts to Admissions and Records, then contact the Advising Office at advisingcenter@templecollege.edu for course evaluation.

HESI A2 Exam

You will need to schedule and take the HESI Admission Assessment (A2) at an in-person testing center. Please refer to the HESI A2 Requirements & Frequently Asked Questions document on the Associate Degree Nursing web page for complete information on testing requirements and resources.

Scores from online/remote proctored exams will not be accepted.

After submitting the nursing application, log back into your My Leopard Profile, select the submitted application, and upload the following supplemental items to complete your application before the deadline:

Conditional Admission Requirements

After all qualified applications have been reviewed and ranked, the class cohort will be selected. Applicants will be notified by email whether or not they are conditionally accepted into the program.

If conditionally accepted, you will receive instructions on completing the following requirements. Do not submit any of these items with your application.

  1. An acknowledgment that you are able to meet the Core Performance Standards for Nursing will be required.
  2. Immunizations, CPR & Drug Screening required by our clinical partners. These must be kept current throughout the program. See the Immunizations, CPR & Drug Screening document on the ADN web page for full requirements.
  3. Health Insurance is a requirement for some clinical sites. If you do not currently have health insurance and do not plan to get health insurance upon enrollment, it will limit the number of clinical sites you are eligible to attend. However, it is not required for admission to Temple College or attendance in the ADN program.
  4. A satisfactory background check – specific instructions will be sent via email after you apply for the program. All applicants will be asked to complete a background check. See the Texas Board of Nursing Background Check Process document on the ADN web page for complete information.

Do not wait until you are selected to begin the fingerprinting process. Clinical facilities may also conduct background checks. It may be necessary to deny admission or dismiss students from the program if they are barred from practicing at any healthcare facility.

Time Commitment

  • Clinical courses generally require 12 contact hours per week. Clinical courses may include day, evening, and weekend hours. Some clinical sites are located outside of Temple.
  • Mandatory Orientations are required prior to beginning the program and prior to going to clinical facilities. These are held outside of regular class hours.

Academic Integrity

Nursing applicants shall abide by the Temple College Academic Integrity policy, located in our Student Handbook. Any violation of our Academic Integrity Policy, including submitting falsified information or using prohibited resources on entrance exams, will result in disqualification from applying to the program. We uphold the highest standards of integrity and expect all applicants to do the same.
