Note: This course is offered 100% online in a synchronous format. Reliable access to a computer and the internet is required.
Certification: Students who successfully complete the program will receive a Certificate of Completion and may be qualified to sit for the AAPC exam, the CPC exam, the AHIMA exam, or other national certification exams.
Important: This is a non-credit program, and federal financial aid, including the Pell Grant, does not apply.
Complete the WCE Short Form
All students must complete the WCE Short Form, even if they have previously attended a WCE course or are a current Temple College student. This is the first required step in the application process and cannot be skipped.

- A Social Security number and the ability to provide proof of it upon request

Important: Important: Your tuition must be paid in full at least two weeks before the program ends to receive the exam voucher and Certificate of Completion.
Notification of Acceptance
You will receive an official acceptance email within a week of submitting your application, provided all requirements are completed and spots are available. The email will include payment instructions and orientation details.
Orientation
Your program has a mandatory orientation. The orientation will typically cover: Program expectations, Course schedules, Issuance of textbooks, Q&A with the instructor, and/or WCE staff.

Program Completion
Students who successfully complete the program will receive a Certificate of Completion and become eligible to sit for your program's certification exam or start the licensure process for your program.
If your account has an outstanding balance, the Certificate of Completion and any applicable exam vouchers will not be issued until the balance is paid in full.
Description
This program teaches fundamental coding skills for an outpatient physician setting, and the training prepares the student to take the AAPC CPC® exam for a career in medical coding. The course provides the most up-to-date information relating to CPT®, ICD-10-CM Volumes 1 & 2, and HCPCS Level II coding. The training also assures a broad, encompassing knowledge and expertise in reviewing and assigning the correct procedure and diagnosis codes for physician services. This course meets for 106 hours of instruction. Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a Certificate of Completion, and may be qualified to sit for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) Exam, the Certified Professional Coder Exam (CPC or CPC-H Apprentice), the American Health Information Association (AHIMA) Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam, or other national certification exams.
Course Objectives
- Understand the regulations, ethics, and laws that impact coding
- Understand the appropriate application of CPT®, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes to multi-specialty medical records
- Develop proficiency in applying the official ICD-10-CM Coding Guidelines for Outpatient Services
- Learn the various CPT® Modifiers and correct application
- Preparation for CPC™ examination

- HPRS 1006 Essentials of Medical Terminology: 16 contact hours (1.6 CEUs)
- POFM 1000 Basic Medical Coding: 90 contact hours (9.0 CEUs)
Attendance Policy
The Medical Coding program requires a minimum of 85% attendance to successfully complete the course. Attendance will be taken at each meeting.
