We have completed a month of athletic action in the 2024-2025, and while the bulk of the action is about a month away, there has been plenty to talk about.
Volleyball picks up a conference road split
The Temple College volleyball embarked on a North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) western swing this past week as they traveled to Ranger College on Wednesday night and Cisco College on Saturday afternoon.
Despite battling the Rangers tight in all three games, the Leopards fell in three games. The scores were 25-15, 27-25 and 25-22.
The Leopards had 114 total attacks, with 52 digs, 32 kills, 31 assists, 23 block assists and seven aces.
Mia Dunaway had 10 kills on 21 attacks. Libby Flores had 17 assists and 12 digs, Haley Tucker had ten digs and six kills, Pauline Gonzales had 15 digs and three aces, Courtnee Morgan had seven block assists, and Jordyn Carpenter had eight digs and seven kills.
Against Cisco, the Leopards fought from one-game deficits twice and picked up seven kills in the deciding game as TC downed the Wranglers, 3-2. The scores of the match were 24-26, 25-10, 18-25, 25-18 and 15-8.
The Leopards logged season highs in total attacks (164), digs (94), kills (66), assists (63), and aces (14).
Dunaway set a career-high in kills with 19, while Lexi Manning had 14 kills and 18 digs, and Payton Koller added 10.
Flores had 40 assists, and McKinley Cole contributed 22. Gonzales had 15 assists, while Flores and Koller each had 13. Koller also had five aces to lead the squad.
Temple College finished the week with a 9-12 record overall, and a 2-2-2 mark in NTJCAC play. They are tied for fourth place with Ranger, and Vernon.
Next up for Leopards’ volleyball
TC will have a pair of conference home matches this week, as they will host Hill College in their annual Pink Out Game on Wednesday at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the Leopards will host North Central Texas College at 1 p.m.
Women’s basketball preps for exhibition on Friday
The Temple College women’s basketball team will have its first exhibition on the season on Friday, as they host Paris Junior College at 4 p.m.
It will be the debut for 11 new Leopards.
The Leopards’ regular season commences on Nov. 6 with a home game against Coastal Bend College.
“Team UN” continues preparation for Mullen/Mitchell Jamboree
The Temple College men’s basketball team will have an exhibition game against East Mississippi Community College at the Mullen/Mitchell Jamboree in Fort Worth at 9 p.m. Oct. 11.
Baseball continues to work through fall schedule
The Temple College baseball team played a pair of fall ball games last week. They took on Blinn College in Brenham on Wednesday and played Angelina College in Lufkin on Friday.
The Leopards will play three games this week, as they host Navarro College on Wednesday, and will take on Galveston on Friday and Weatherford on Saturday, both at McLennan Community College.
Softball faces tough week of competition
The Temple College softball team begins a rugged month of October with a three-game road trip that starts at Getterman Stadium in Waco against the Baylor Bears on Wednesday.
The Leopards will play at Northwestern State on Saturday and at Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday.
