The Temple College Leopards student-athletes went into the first week of October with plenty of opportunities to improve and excel on the courts and fields.
Volleyball plays two this week
Leopards Volleyball will play its next three games away from the TC campus, two of them this week. They will play at Vernon College on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and at Weatherford College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Volleyball takes advantage of home court, clinches two NTJCAC wins
The Leopards pulled to within a game of the halfway point of the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference volleyball season this past week.
On Wednesday, the Leopards held their annual Pink Out Game against Hill College.
Temple battled through four grueling games and emerged with a 3-1 win over the Rebels.
TC logged 93 digs, 54 kills, 54 attacks, 16 block assists, seven service aces, and three solo blocks. The scores of the match were 16-25, 25-21, 26-24 and 27-25.
Three Leopards registered double-doubles: Lexi Manning (12 kills, 10 digs), Jordyn Carpenter (16 kills, 10 kills), and Libby Flores (49 assists, 15 digs). Lana Wright and Mia Dunaway each had 11 kills, Ally Jowers had 11 digs, and Payton Koller added 10.
On Saturday, the Leopards hosted North Central Texas College.
In similar fashion to their Wednesday contest, the Leopards bounced back from a one-game deficit to tame the Lions in four games.
The scores of the match were 22-25, 25-18, 25-21 and 25-16.
Temple College registered 74 digs, 53 kills, 47 assists and a season-high 30 block assists.
Carpenter and Flores had double-doubles, with Carpenter contributing 15 digs and 11 kills and Flores having registered 24 assists and 11 digs. Manning led the Leopards in kills with 12, and Carpenter and Haley Tucker each added 11. McKinley Cole had 18 assists, Pauline Gonzales chipped in 14 digs, and Nyla Lewis contributed 11 block assists.
With the current three-game win streak, the Leopards sit at 4-2 in conference. They are tied for second place with Vernon College.
Women’s basketball scrimmages begin season
Temple College women’s basketball scrimmages got underway last Friday at Kirby Johnson Court, as the Leopards prepare for the 2024-2025 season.
The Leopards took on Paris Junior College, which was the lone home game on the practice docket. TC will have three more scrimmages, which includes an exhibition at Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Men’s basketball continues to work
Temple College men’s basketball continued their grind toward their season-opening game against Fort Cavazos on Nov. 2.
The Leopards have five slated in November, which includes the Kirby Johnson Court Dedication on Nov. 2.
Baseball plays trio of fall scrimmages
The Temple College baseball squad play three fall exhibition games last week.
The Leopards hosted Navarro College on Wednesday. TC was able to flex their depth over afternoon-long scrimmage.
Temple College traveled to McLennan Community College on Friday and Saturday, as Leopards took on Galveston College and Weatherford College respectively.
TC will travel to San Antonio on Friday to take on St. Mary’s University.
Softball hits road for three exhibition matchups, three more ahead
The Temple College softball team played a trio of road scrimmages this past week.
On Wednesday, the Leopards took on the Baylor Bears at Getterman Stadium in Waco.
The Leopards enjoyed a Louisiana weekend, as they took on Northwestern State University at Central High School in Natchitoches on Saturday, and at Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday.
Temple will have four road contests this week. The Leopards will play Tarleton State in Stephenville on Wednesday, University of Texas-Arlington on Friday, and games against Houston Christian University and Prairie View A&M on Saturday.
