The HESI Admission Assessment (A2) is designed to assess the academic and personal readiness of prospective students for higher education. It is particularly well-suited for health science fields. The full HESI A2 consists of 9 different exams; however, Temple College Nursing only requires 5 of the assessments.
The 5 Required Assessments

Vocabulary & General Knowledge Scored
Assesses vocabulary skills, general knowledge, and critical thinking skills as a means of determining the student's ability to succeed in a nursing education program.

Mathematics Scored
Indicates basic math skills at the eighth and ninth grade levels. Covers whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percentages, household measures, metric system, military time, temperature conversions, Roman numerals, and one- and two-step problems. An online calculator is available.

Reading Comprehension Scored
Indicates basic reading and comprehension skills at the eighth and ninth grade reading levels. Reading selections often relate to medical scenarios or commonly used concepts in health sciences, including vocabulary terms frequently encountered in nursing textbooks.

Personality Profile Not Scored
Uses concepts related to introversion and extroversion to classify the student's personality style. Faculty may refer to these results to assist you while you are in the program.

Learning Style Not Scored
Assesses the preferred learning style of the applicant and offers test-taking and study tips suited to that style. Faculty may refer to these results to assist you while you are in the program.
The Learning Style Inventory and Personality Profile categories are not graded and are not reflected in your score.

Frequently Asked Questions
- You are strongly encouraged to take the exam through the Temple College Testing Center. This ensures you are taking the sections required by Temple College Nursing — and nothing extra.
- Scores from remotely proctored (online) exams are no longer accepted. You must test in-person at a testing site.
- Contact the TC Testing Center to schedule: testingcenter@templecollege.edu. Appointments must be scheduled in advance via email.
- You can test at either the Temple or Hutto campus.
- A government issued photo ID is required to test.
- Cost: $65.00, paid to the Cashier's Office the morning of your exam.
- Temple campus: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays at 10:00 am
- Hutto campus: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays at 8:30 am
You must schedule in advance as there are additional steps needed to secure your reservation.
Scores for exams taken within the past 2 years are accepted, as long as they are submitted within the nursing application window and were taken at an in-person testing site.
- ADN and ADN Bridging: Minimum score of 80 in each of the 3 scored sections (Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary & Knowledge, and Math). If any section score is below 80, you must retake the entire exam.
- VN: Minimum cumulative score of 80 for the 3 required sections.
Do not submit a score report that does not meet the minimum requirements. It will be rejected and your application will be disqualified.
- You have 2 attempts per academic year (September to August) through the Temple College Testing Centers.
- When you retake the exam, you must repeat all 3 required sections.
- It is strongly recommended that you prepare through study and practice before retaking the exam. See the How to Prepare section below.
- Log into your Evolve account.
- Download and save your HESI A2 Exam Cumulative Report.
- Log into Self Service and access your Nursing application.
- Upload your score report to the application before the application deadline.
Without your HESI A2 score report, your application will be incomplete and cannot be processed. Do not send your score report by mail or email. You must upload it to complete your online application.
No. You must submit a qualifying score on a single score sheet from a single testing session.

The tutoring department schedules HESI Study Sessions throughout the year, offering targeted practice in areas where you need improvement.
Note: You must take a practice test and bring the results with you to your session.
