Temple College Students, Faculty Attend Texas Educational Theatre Association’s TheatreFest

Temple College sent eight students and three faculty members to the Texas Educational Theatre Association’s TheatreFest, held Oct. 1-4 at the Arlington Convention Center.

Participants attended workshops, recruited for Temple’s theatre and musical theatre programs, and students auditioned for transfer opportunities at four-year universities.

Faculty members Priscilla Santana, Interim Dean of Fine Arts and Co-Director of Musical Theatre; Dr. Derek Mudd Chair of Communication, Theatre and Humanities and Co-Director of Musical Theatre; and Melissa Green, Associate Professor, took part in auditions, recruitment and workshops. Green also presented Reimagining Theatre History in the Classroom,” a session encouraging creative approaches to teaching theatre history.

Eight sophomore theatre and musical theatre majors auditioned for transfer programs, earning numerous callbacks and scholarship offers from universities including Baylor, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas Tech and the University of Texas, among others.

The theatre and music theatre students included Sophia Campos, Jonas Dotson, Nola Ferrell, Robert Hernandez, Rebekah Kropp, Viktorea Mantey, Harrison Stallings and Sarah Underwood.

Musical theatre major Harrison Stallings was also awarded the organization’s $3,000 Founder’s Scholarship, recognizing outstanding theatre students continuing their studies.
