Coming Soon! This program prepares students to work as Texas State Certified Community Health Workers (CHWs) for local/state public health agencies, non-profit and commercial individual and family services, and outpatient/inpatient health care organizations. Emphasis is on health education, health promotion, community health research, advocacy, nutrition and developing relationships with vulnerable individuals, families, and communities. Coursework in this program is intended to develop and enhance the skills of community health workers and provide state certification as a CHW. This course offers a comprehensive learning experience totaling 160 hours.

Certification/Licensure: Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a certificate of completion and may be qualified to sit for the Community Health Worker Certification exam offered through the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

If you would like to apply for the Texas Public Educational Grant, which covers 50% of the program's tuition, please complete a free FAFSA application at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa.
3. Submit Required Documents

Payment is required within 24 hours of registration to secure your spot in the program. Students who do not meet the payment deadline will be removed from the program. Students may reregister when they are ready to make a payment.

Tuition Waiver

The Texas State College Tuition Waiver program exempts or waives payment of tuition and fees at state-supported colleges or universities for foster youth currently or formerly in the conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) and for those adopted from DFPS.

No, Pell Grants and federal student aid cannot be used to pay for our continuing education programs. We strongly encourage students to complete their FAFSA, and apply for the Texas Public Educational Grant (TPEG).

The Texas Public Educational Grant (TPEG) is a state-funded program designed to assist Texas residents with financial need in covering the costs of higher education at public colleges and universities in Texas. Students must demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA. If approved, TPEG will cover 50% of the tuition for eligible WCE programs.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are nationally recognized to record satisfactory completion of certain approved occupationally related programs. Generally one CEU is awarded for each 10 contact hours of instruction included in a specified continuing education program or activity. Successful completion is grade and attendance-based. Eighty percent attendance is required for most classes, but some require 100 percent attendance. Individuals who register for and successfully complete our courses are awarded CEUs.
