Focus2Finish logoTemple College offers an 8-week class model where the fall and spring semesters are split into two 8-week periods. When possible, students will take intensive 8-week classes instead of 16-week classes, allowing them to focus on just two or three classes at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions

When possible, students should take two classes in each 8-week session and two classes in the summer session. In terms of maximum allowable semester credits in the 8-week session, a student can take a maximum of 10 semester credits in an 8-week session, but your total number of semester credits cannot exceed 18.

Yes, a few of our degrees will not be going to an all-inclusive 8-week model in Fall 2020. In order to take both 16-week and 8-week classes at the same time, we highly encourage you to use the Academic Maps that can be found under the 'Associate Degrees, Certificates, & Fields of Study" tab in the Temple College Catalog, as a guide on how to properly schedule a 16/8-week combination that will set you up for success.

Full-time status is achieved by taking at least 12 semester credits in a long semester (combination of 16-week, first 8-week, and second 8-week classes). As long as you register for a combined total of 12 credit hours, you will still be a full-time student.

You will register for 16-week, first 8-week, and second 8-week classes at the same time during the semester registration period.

Since these days will vary from semester to semester, we will post these dates to the website on our Registration Dates page and have them displayed in One College Centre. (Please note that future semester dates will not be available until registration opens for that specific semester.)

The semester credit hours for your classes will not change. If you take two 3-credit-hour classes in an 8-week format, you will earn 6 credit hours.

No. If you currently take only 12 semester credits in one semester, you will only need to take 12 semester credits in Fall 2020. Instead of taking four classes at the same time, you will only be taking two or three classes in the 1st 8 weeks and two or three classes in the 2nd 8 weeks.

Most classes at Temple College will be moving to an 8-week format; however, some classes will remain in a 16-week format. Use the course catalog in Self Service to identify the length of courses in upcoming semesters. The Advising Center will be providing new 8-week degree plans for you so that you can see which classes in your degree will be offered in 8-week or 16-week formats.

Your instructors and department chairs are working closely with the Advising Center to redesign degree plans for 8-week classes. Your degree plan will show which courses should be taken together in the same 8-week term. It is important to stick to your degree plan!

The tuition payment deadline we use now will not change for 8-week classes. You will still be required to pay (or make payment plans) for classes before 5 p.m. on the payment due date calendar . (Please note that future semester dates will not be available until registration opens for that specific semester.)

No - If you have typically taken only 12 credit hours during a semester, and you take two classes in the first 8-week session and two classes in the second 8-week session, you will still be paying tuition for 12 credit hours.

Yes – Many of our courses will move from in-class formats to hybrid (in-class/online mixture) or online formats. This means that you may expect a slight increase in tuition for these distance education courses.

As required by the Department of Education, you must register for at least 6 credit hours in the 16-week/first 8-week and second 8-week classes before the start of the semester to ensure that your financial aid will not be affected. After the semester has started, adding extra classes may require you to pay for those courses out of pocket, and dropping classes may result in you owing the college money. Always speak to a Financial Aid advisor before making any changes to your schedule after the start of the semester.

As long as you take two classes in the first 8 weeks and two classes in the second 8 weeks, you will be considered full time. Taking one class in the first 8 weeks and one in the second 8 weeks will only net a partial allowance, and Post 9/11 (Chapter 33) students will not get any allowance.
