Temple College is hosting the 2025 Texas Leadership Conference for Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Oct. 17–19, welcoming nearly 350 students and advisors from 93 PTK chapters across Texas.
The annual conference rotates among colleges throughout the state and provides student scholars with opportunities for leadership development, networking, and academic enrichment. Events will take place in the new Temple College Main Building, which opened this fall.
Temple College President Dr. Christy Ponce will deliver the official welcome, followed by a keynote message from Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner, Chief Executive Officer of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, during the opening general session.
“Hosting this statewide conference is an incredible honor for Temple College,” said Theresa Anthony, co-advisor for Temple College’s PTK Lambda Theta chapter. “Phi Theta Kappa represents the highest level of academic achievement and leadership in two-year colleges, and we’re proud to showcase our campus and community to student leaders from across Texas.”
Phi Theta Kappa is the premier honor society recognizing academic excellence at two-year colleges. With more than 3.5 million members worldwide, PTK provides students with opportunities to grow as scholars and leaders while gaining access to a trusted network of peers and mentors.
The Texas Region of Phi Theta Kappa includes more than 90 chapters statewide and has been recognized nationally for excellence in membership recruitment, chapter engagement, college completion, and diversity initiatives.
“I’m excited to host hundreds of students from community colleges throughout the state,” said Brooke Barrera, interim president of Temple College’s PTK chapter. “For most of our PTK students, this will be their first leadership conference, and we have nearly a dozen members attending. We’re thrilled for the opportunity to learn from other chapters, share ideas, and strengthen our leadership skills right here at home.”
Founded in 1960, the Lambda Theta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Temple College has a long tradition of recognizing academic excellence and empowering students through scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship. Over the decades, the chapter has supported thousands of students in their academic and professional journeys while fostering a strong, supportive community of scholars.
Membership in Phi Theta Kappa is extended to Temple College students who meet the organization’s academic standards, including:
• Enrollment in an associate degree or certificate program
• Completion of at least 12 credit hours of college-level coursework for degree programs or 6 hours for certificate programs
• A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5
Members gain access to exclusive scholarships, leadership programs, and professional development opportunities—such as this weekend’s statewide leadership conference.
