Student Parent Liaison
The Student Parent Liaison is a staff member from the Temple College, who is responsible for providing current and incoming parenting students with information regarding supportive measures and other resources available to parenting students.

Accommodations and Supportive Measures
Requesting pregnancy or parenting Accommodations
A student seeking accommodations or supportive measures, adjustments, or excused absences related to pregnancy will need to provide official documentation from the student’s physician/medical provider. This letter must include dates for excused absences and a statement that absences are deemed medically necessary and/or other information to support the need for adjustment or accommodations. To disclose your pregnancy or parenting status and to ensure proper accommodations and support, complete the Title IX application. Contact Misty with any questions.
What happens once my accommodations are approved?
The Student Parent Liaison will work collaboratively with the student and their faculty on an educational accommodation plan. Accommodations can vary greatly depending on the student’s unique situation. This plan may be modified if complications arise.
What are examples of accommodations?
The following are examples of reasonable accommodations and supportive measures provided under Title IX:
- Excused absences and medical leave deemed medically necessary for pregnancy or related conditions. The Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management will work with both the student and the student’s instructors to create a plan for completion of course work and continuation of the student’s education. Individual plans may be adjusted as circumstances change.
- Opportunity to make up any work missed due to medically necessary absences for pregnancy
- Breaks during class to attend to health needs or express breast milk
- Accessible to online resources
- Changes in schedule or course sequence
- Reasonable adjustments to an education program or activity which include, but are not limited to:
- Accessible seating
- Appropriate restroom breaks
What is a Leave of Absence?
The Student Parent Liaison facilitates leaves of absence, on a voluntary basis, for pregnant and parenting students. A pregnant or parenting student may undertake a leave of absence and, if in good academic standing at the start of the leave of absence, return to the student’s degree or certificate program in good academic standing without reapplying for admission to the college. Medical leave may be approved for the following circumstances:
- Pregnancy-related conditions that require leave or academic modifications
- Medical recovery in the immediate postpartum period
- Child care and parenting responsibilities in the immediate postpartum period
Are Lactation Rooms available to students?
The Student Parenting Liaison will facilitate appropriate lactation space on campus at the student’s request.
Title IX
Title IX prohibits discrimination based on sex, including pregnancy and sex-based harassment. This includes harassment and discrimination against a student based on condition of pregnancy, false pregnancy, termination of pregnancy, lactation, and medically related conditions or recovery therefrom.
Temple College will provide students with reasonable accommodations and supportive measures due to pregnancy and/or related conditions. Temple College will also allow a voluntary leave of absence, ensure the availability of lactation space, and maintain grievance procedures to provide for the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints of sex discrimination.
Title IX mandates that universities (1) offer supportive measures to students who are pregnant or have related conditions and (2) allow students who are pregnant to return to their same academic and extracurricular status as before their pregnancy.
