Programs of Study

The High School Equivalency (HSE) Preparation program (formerly known as GED) provides individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully take either of the HSE exams. Classes are offered year-round at Temple College and various locations throughout the Central Texas area. Students must first take an assessment and then attend classes. They must meet minimum time requirements and will work with an instructor to adequately prepare them to pass the HSE test.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, please let us know when you pass your test, get a job, go to college, etc., for three reasons:

  1. It  keeps our records updated.
  2. It’s exciting for the staff to hear about your success.
  3. You may want to participate in our HSE (GED) graduation ceremony.  It’s free (and optional)!
Everyone is different. Student success is usually determined by the amount of time a person is able to commit to study for the GED. You may be ready for some sections of the test, but need to work longer on other sections.
No, you may take one section at a time. It is recommended you do not take language and math on the same day. If you take two in one day, schedule a break between tests.
You may attend any time during our hours, which are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. – 8:30 pm. Ten hours a week are mandatory. Let us know if you are going to miss class. 254-298-8620 or ged@templecollege.edu.
You may take a practice exam at any time to determine your readiness for the official exam.
After you complete the orientation, you may attend classes any time they are held, depending on the site schedule and regulations.
Let us know if you won’t be able to attend classes for a few days or longer. We may be able to give you work you can complete while you are out so that you can keep focused on preparing for the HSE (GED). An extended absence will require approval.
