The Medical Coding program is offered twice a year, and each class size is limited to the first 25 students who have completed the registration process.
This course is designed to teach fundamental coding skills for those working in outpatient physician settings. It prepares students to take the AAPC CPC® exam for a career in medical coding. The training provides the most up-to-date information on CPT®, ICD-10-CM Volumes 1 & 2, and HCPCS Level II coding. It also ensures broad knowledge and expertise in reviewing and assigning the correct procedure and diagnosis codes for physician services. The course covers the following areas:
- Regulations, ethics, and laws that impact coding
- Proper application of CPT®, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes to multi-specialty medical records
- Developing proficiency in applying the official ICD-10-CM Coding Guidelines for Outpatient Services
- Learning about various CPT® Modifiers and their correct application
- Preparation for the CPC™ examination
You will need a computer/laptop and access to the internet for this class.
Certification/Licensure: Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a certificate of completion, and may be qualified to sit for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) Exam, the Certified Professional Coder Exam (CPC or CPC-H Apprentice), the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam; and/or other national certification exams.
Medical Billing: Students interested in obtaining their Certified Professional Biller (CPB)® certification can explore our Medical Billing Specialist program, offered in partnership with Ed2Go.

The Texas Public Educational Grant (TPEG) is a state-funded program designed to assist Texas residents with financial need in covering the costs of higher education at public colleges and universities in Texas. Students must demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA. If approved, TPEG will cover 50% of the tuition for eligible WCE programs.
