Adult Scholarships Available for various In-Demand Certifications

Temple College Workforce and Visual Arts buildingDue to the continued demand for healthcare providers in the area, the Temple College Adult Education and Literacy program offers scholarships for training and certification in Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA), Electrocardiography (EKG) Technician, Medical Coding Technician, and Phlebotomy Technician.

Registration for the Spring 2026 session is now open and will close on Nov 13th due to elevated pre-enrollment. Selected individuals who meet the requirements will receive a scholarship covering 100% of tuition and certification testing fees. Upon completion, graduates will participate in a job fair with prospective employers.

Clinical Medical Assistants (CMAs) perform procedures, provide patient care, conduct basic laboratory tests, and administer medications. They work in many types of health care facilities, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, home health agencies, community health clinics, hospices, and physicians’ offices.

Certified Nurse Aides (CNAs) work in hospitals, physician offices, and other health facilities, and are key members of the medical team. Duties of an EKG technician include performing electrocardiogram testing, preparing patients for cardiovascular tests, verifying the quality of recorded data, reporting findings to the attending physician, and maintaining electrocardiography equipment in good working order.

Electrocardiography (EKG) Technicians work in hospitals, physicians' offices, and other health facilities, and are key members of the medical team. Duties of an EKG technician include performing electrocardiogram testing, preparing patients for cardiovascular tests, verifying the quality of recorded data, reporting findings to the attending physician, and maintaining electrocardiography equipment in good working order.

Patient Care Technicians work in hospitals, physicians' offices, and other health facilities, providing basic care, monitoring vital signs, assisting with daily activities, and offering emotional support to patients. They work under the supervision of nurses and doctors, performing tasks such as measuring vital signs, assisting patients with personal hygiene, and preparing patients for medical procedures. PCTs also report changes in patients' condition to the healthcare team and may assist with administrative tasks.

Phlebotomy Technicians work in hospitals, physicians' offices, and other health care facilities and are an important part of the clinical laboratory team. Duties of a phlebotomy technician may include drawing blood, preparing specimens for storage or testing, assembling equipment, and verifying patients’ records. A phlebotomist may also conduct patient interviews and screen donors at a blood bank.

A Sterile Processing Technician is a healthcare professional who prepares, installs, assembles, cleans, and sterilizes all the healthcare and laboratory equipment used in medical exams, surgeries, and other clinical procedures. They ensure strict adherence to sterilization processes and ensure that instruments, equipment, and supplies are safe for reuse across patients daily. They play an integral role in ensuring the success of surgeries. Sterile processing technicians usually work in clinics, hospitals, doctors' offices, and other settings that use medical equipment.
