Vessels and Vestments
Temple College will welcome ceramic artist and educator David Hill for Vessels and Vestments, a compelling exhibition of his contemporary ceramic work. The event opens this Saturday, September 19, at the Michael Donahue Gallery inside Temple College’s Workforce and Visual Arts Building.
An opening reception will be held Saturday, September 19, from 6–8 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The exhibition will remain on view through October 22.
By combining two recent series of Hill’s work, Vessels and Vestments, visitors can explore a broader collection of his ceramics in dialogue, highlighting the links, differences, and developing concepts that inform his studio practice.
Mr. Hill’s work extends beyond the traditional boundaries of pottery and sculpture, exploring faith, the search for meaning, and the sacred value of beautiful objects in everyday life. Through form, material, and process, his work invites viewers to consider how ordinary objects can become vessels of memory, contemplation, and spiritual significance.
“Vessels and Vestments presents two recent series of my artwork in conversation with each other,” Mr. Hill said. “Though they differ in approach and outcome, both are integral parts of my practice as an artist.”
Hill is a Professor of Art at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas, where he has taught ceramics and sculpture since 2012. He earned a Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts from Clemson University in 2010 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art from Shorter College in 2005. His artwork has been featured in solo and group exhibitions throughout North America.
Temple College students and aspiring artists have a valuable chance to experience the work of a practicing professional artist and educator nearby. For the wider community, Vessels and Vestments encourages you to take your time, observe carefully, and connect with contemporary ceramics through themes of craft, beauty, and belief.
The exhibition will conclude with an Artist Talk by David Hill at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, at the Michael Donahue Gallery. Mr. Hill will discuss the work featured in Vessels and Vestments, his artistic process and influences, and the ideas that inform the exhibition. The talk will offer students, faculty, educators, artists, and community members the opportunity to hear directly from Hill and gain insight into his creative practice.

About David Hill
