What is BEST?

Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology (BEST) is a national robotics competition intended to cultivate STEM interest among middle and high school students. The eight-week, fall event features a robotics game based on an annual theme, alongside the BEST Award, judged on criteria including a project summary, presentation, display, and team spirit. BEST Robotics is open to students in grades 6-12.

Key Facts about BEST Robotics:

  • Founded: 1993 by engineers at Texas Instruments
  • Target Audience: Middle school and high school students (grades 6-12)
  • Structure: Free for schools to participate-no registration fees
  • Format: Teams design and build a remote-controlled robot to perform specific tasks based on an annual game challenge.
  • Materials: Each team receives an identical "kit of parts: and has 6 weeks to build their robot.
  • Regional Hubs: Local competitions are run through hubs across the United States. The best teams advance to regional championships.

  2. Practice date: October 25, 2025 at the new Temple College Workforce and Visual Arts Building.
  3. Game Day: November 8, 2025 at Temple High School
